Mike Cierski resides in Calumet City, IL. and from an early age has been passionate about music. He started his formal music education around 3 years old taking piano lessons and singing in his church choir. At the age of 9 he join the St. Victor Parish Glory Choir in Calumet City, IL. and knew he wanted to make music a big part of his life. Exploring the music world more in high school, he attended Art of Music Camp at Concordia University in River Forest, IL. for 3 years. During high school he would play for numerous choirs and churches developing his music skills.
After high school Mike started his college career at South Suburban College in South Holland, IL. where he would major in music and organ performance. During that time he was elected to the board of directors of the American Theatre Organ Society where he developed youth programs such as the Theatre Organ Summer Camp, Youth Corner (articles of youth related topic in ATOS bi-monthly publication of Theatre Organ), Award recognition for outstanding theatre organ students, and producing and presenting lectures and concerts for students at college campuses to promote the theatre organ art form. During this time Mike wanted to give back to the community which gave so much to him. He decided to become a music teacher and inspire the next generation of musicians. Mike graduated from Chicago State University with a Bachelor in Music Education with Honors. He continued his education at VanderCook College of Music and earned his Master in Music Education degree with a 4.0.
Mike currently teaches general music at West Harvey/Dixmoor Illinois School District 147 and produces the musicals at South Suburban College. He also directs a Youth Choir (Let’s Sing!) for Books, Brushes, and Bands for Education in Hammond, IN and is director of music at St. Victor Parish. Mike is excited to part of the Southlake Children’s Choral organization and with her 30 + year history of continuing to inspire the next generation of musicians!
